"BUDDHIST SQUIRRELS"

We have squirrels here ... let me start over.

We have trees here! Not just on the other side of the fences, but, RIGHT HERE, on the yard. They are amazing and where I can actually touch them. Beautiful things trees. I think maybe I was a Druid in another life; I feel connected to trees.

As a result of the trees, we have squirrels here. They are not tame in the sense that they will eat out of your hand, but they are not afraid of us. Just today one skittered across the sidewalk right in front of me, I actually had to stutter-step to keep from stepping on him. Funny little creatures they are. In conjunction with them in the trees and sidewalks they are also all over the buildings; they can actually climb right up the side of the building; something I did not know they could do. Ok, maybe I spend way too much time watching 'em, lol, but I really enjoy them. They are playful, mischievous even. For instance the other day I watched as two of them chased each other up and down one of the oaks outside my window. Up and down and around and around they went. I must admit, laughed at their antics.

These squirrels live here. I suspect that they do not even know this place is a prison. To them, it is just the place that they exist. They do not wish for something different. They do not complain about their circumstances. Like good little Buddhists they simple are here until they are not.

There is something to be learned from this.

Peace be with you, mark
