I grew up in an era when the word Socialism was a bad word. My generation has been taught to hate Socialism, to see it as a forerunner to Communism. Communism to us, is akin to Satanism. Even though we may not know a thing about it, we hate it. And I will admit to you here and now that I know very little about either of them in fact I only
know what I hear from other folks. Why then you ask am I even speaking on something I admittedly know very little about? Because I'm concerned and am beginning to think that it's time to try something different.
Let me start by saying that I am a Conservative, and proud of it. A huge Trump supporter. But I will also tell you that I care about people, and I do not agree one-hundred percent with Trump or other Conservatives; I have my own thoughts about things and I do not blindly follow anyone. Yes, when I was in office I was a Democrat which would seem to identify me with the Democratic agenda of today. But let me be clear, I have VERY different views on the world than the modern so-called Progressive Agenda.
Not so much that I disagree, but I have a more realistic view of human nature. I want to see the good in folks, I want to think if you turn the other cheek that the world will change but I am acutely aware that some folks have decided to follow a path that is ... well, mean-spirited. And I will not make excuses for that type of lifestyle. Back to the subject at hand.
I am watching the news and seeing and hearing from my children about the price of a gallon gas here in America. On the other hand I hear President Trump saying that we,
the United States of America, are "Energy Independent"!! If we are in fact energy independent, meaning that we do not have to rely on the Middle East for our crude oil ...
then why the hell are our gas prices rising ... we are told it is because of the closing of the Straight of Hormuz. Confusion here! If we are energy independent as the President says, then again I ask, "Why are our gas prices rising over something half-way around the world? Someone is either lying about us being energy independent, or someone is taking advantage of the situation to become rich, richer, off the backs of the American citizens. Hmm.
I think it is quite obvious what the answer is here.
In speaking to my daughter yesterday about gas prices she said this to me, "I don't know how poor people are making it". It got me to thinking.
Wasn't it President Obama who said that the best thing that could happen to this country would be for gas to be $5.00 a gallon? And there it is. Millionaires don't get it! Nobody actually gives a damn about poor folks, not Republicans and not Democrats'. Oh they talk a good game, but their actions speak the real truth. Again I ask you to reflect; how ARE people on minimum-wage jobs making it? Truth is they are having their right to own and operate a motor vehicle stolen from them; their rights as an American to enjoy a few simple pleasures such as taking their kids for a drive. It's horrible out there if your a minimum-wage earner. And these rising gas prices are effecting
all of our food prices too; what if your a single mother trying to raise a family, how the hell do you do it? Hell. Forgive me here. But something stinks in Gotham, Batman!
Again my disclaimer. I am a Conservative and a Capitalist to the core. But first and foremost, I am a human being. So I must answer the question that so many are asking.
Why are so many of the younger generation wanting to try Socialism. Well take it from me, they are questioning things like the strangle hold that the Oil Companies have on the American economy. And people like me, the old generation, are also asking the question: if we are energy independent from the middle east why are our prices gas rising?
And we can only conclude that it is GREED on the part of the Oil companies. Oh, the experts will have other reasons, but folks like me ain't buying' into it. Folks like me,
simple minded, average, working-class folks believe whole-heartedly, it is greed on the part of the Oil Companies pure and simple.
Now I must admit, I'm one of those folks who does not believe that the Government has our best interests in mind. And, I believe that the Federal Government in particular is inefficient in it's operation of anything, from prisons to education, to the Welfare System to health care. I base this on my five years in the military and my thirty years in prison. In both of those experiences I have seen the American tax-payer defrauded; no not in a deliberate criminal ways, but in complete incomitance by the folks who run those organizations. No, they are not evil people hell bent on stealing tax dollars, they are just normal people who become complacent when they work for a system that has no real accountability. With this said I will go out on a limb an say this: I believe in my country and I believe in the good-will of most folks in it. So I believe that it can be fixed. But it ain't going to happen without trying something new.
To the point at hand.
Maybe the government should consider taking over the oil companies in America. I mean, in times like this, I would think that if the well-fare of the American citizen were of concern to the Oil Companies they would temporarily suspend all interest in corporate profits and give us affordable gasoline. Since they obviously have not done this, but have instead used the crisis in the Middle-east to increase their profits ... maybe we should declare a national emergency and have the government take them over. That is an America First agenda, Mr. Trump.
I think that the oil in this country belongs to the people of this country. What do you think? #socialism?
Peace be with you
