I was talking to my son, Chris on the phone the other day. He told me that his wife, Keely (a peach) was telling him that she was in the car with my daughter, Azteca, when I called. She said we yukked it up for awhile and then at the end of the phone call, my daughter said, "love you". She was of course speaking to me! My son said that Keely was absolutely surprised to hear my daughter say, I love you, to ANYBODY. Keely has noticed that my daughter does not use those words, not to her mother or brothers or boyfriends. Not to anybody. Then my son added, "That girl really loves her father. You're the only one she says that to".
It is one of the funny talking points in our family. "You better not say something bad about me in front of my daughter!" Now she don't weigh but a buck ten, but she THINKS she weighs in at 210! Yeah, she's pistol. My kids say that if my daughter hears, even her mother, say something bad about me she gets in their face and starts barking, lol. Yeah, that little skinny broad has moxey. Funny story. At my son and Keely's wedding earlier this year there was a big fight at the hotel with this other family, and my daughter was in the middle of it too. Ended up with a bloody nose, lol. Like I said. She thinks she weighs, 210! My son laughs and says, "She's the only person on this planet that Pop is afraid of". And it's true. Even as a kid when she got her feathers up and started barking at me, I sat the hell down and kept quiet. Truth is: I raised her that way. I wanted my daughter to be strong. To be no bodies fool.
Now her mother, Teresa is short on words as well. In our twenty-two years of marriage I would say that she MAYBE told me that she loved me, maybe, five times, in twenty-two years. And believe me, when she said it, it stopped me in my tracks, because I knew that when she said it, she meant it. I would immediately stop and say to myself, "What did I do to deserve that!". Words for her were not something she just threw around. My daughter is exactly like that too. So much like that that when she says, I love you, it too stops people, like Keely, in their tracks.
Me, hell, I love everybody, in words. I regularly tell the other inmates, I love you. And I do, but it is more of an affectionate type of thing, not real heart-felt love. Not that deep down indescribable thing. Hell, I can tell a prostitute, "I love you" and, in my past, I could be thinking about what to buy my wife for her birthday while humping away on some other woman (I know, I'm a dog, lol,. Guess that's why she left me. Not being funny. Being honest with myself) my point it this:
Words are not love and love is not words.
And some folks, like my daughter, truly understand the value, the worth, of the spoken word. Would that I could be more like her!
#If the measure of a man can be taken by the love of his children, then I am the greatest man whose ever lived. My children love me!
Words are not love and love is not words. # luckiest father in the world.
